“I’ve been tested,” the former New York City mayor told supporters crammed into his campaign headquarters here. “I’m ready to lead. We’ve got to have ultimate confidence that we’re going to prevail.” Oh please........
Joe Biden said it the best: You Tube video Biden: “…And the irony is, Rudy Giuliani, probably the most under qualified person since George Bush to seek the presidency, is here - talking about any of the people here. Rudy Giuliani. I mean think about it, Rudy Giuliani, there’s only three things he mentions in a sentence — a noun and a verb and 9/11 and I mean, there’s nothing else. There’s nothing else.”
The World Trade Center was bombed in 1993 during Rudy's Mayoral campaign. Just what exactly did he learn from that and what steps did he take to protect the over 2,000 people that perished on September 11, 2001.
He provided the fire and police department with radios that didn't work. He installed his emergency command center in WTC #7 against advice not to do so. He almost died himself while he paraded around the WTC. He downplayed health effects from the collapse, the city did not issue guidelines for the testing or cleanup and left this to the owners of private buildings. He took control away from federal agencies such as FEMA and then his administration never enforced federal requirements.
To top it all off there's my favorite Rudy claim provided by Wikepedia:
Giuliani claimed to have been at the Ground Zero site "as often, if not more, than most workers.... I was there working with them. I was exposed to exactly the same things they were exposed to. So in that sense, I'm one of them." Some 9/11 workers have objected to those claims. While his appointment logs were unavailable for the six days immediately following the attacks, after that Giuliani spent a total of 29 hours over three months at the site. This contrasted with recovery workers at the site who spent this much time at the site in two to three days.
Style Weekly had a lot of fun at Chesterfield’s expense when they ran several tongue-in-cheek articles and tidbits about how former supervisors were considering passing a resolution making English the official language in Chesterfield. In their October 17 issue, Style featured one of several hits on the language issue, “Chesterfield County implements fines for residents who break mandatory water restrictions. Board of Supervisors Chairman Kelly Miller adds an amendment requiring illegal aliens to pay in pesos, and then start talking English.”
Miller got a hard time for his ideas, which were intended to save taxpayer dollars, but were turned into a caricature of an intolerant county. mfausz@villagepublishing.com
I agree completely with the Village Editor. As a former northerner and I mean Henrico County I enjoy seeing all people living in Chesterfield County regardless of language. I wish the government would come together to allow more hard working people into this country legally. Working, law abiding people contribute a great deal to Chesterfield's economy. I see that when I walk through the local WalMart. Some should stop looking outside and turning up their noses and spend more time looking inside at themselves.
