There's A Storm Brewing

It's not total blackness. It's not oppressive. It's dark gray and enveloping and then gone. I could be home alone vacuuming or out with people. I sometimes feel that I'm just a step away from the edge. That life right now is forced. Like I'm trying too hard. Filling myself with meaningless things and activities. I'd rather be sitting in a barn watching mama take care of her new born kid.
Then the mice start to peek out of all their hiding places.

Why Do Human Beings Do These Things

On Christmas Eve Morning 12/24/07 At Hooves & Paws Rescue, In Glenwood, IA someone entered the gates at this rescue facility and beat one of their rescued St. Bernard’s with some type of blunt instrument in the head & eye. She was also kicked in the ribs.

UPDATE
Victoria was operated on 01-04-08 (11) days after the beating she suffered during the break in at our rescue facility Christmas Eve 2007. These pictures show her after the surgery 01-04-08. What the vet found when surgery was performed is a large amount of tissue damage above the eye and in the head. He also said she is lucky to be alive after the severe blow she took to the eye and head. She is home again healing and we will be watching her carefully.

What you have to like about something like this is the suggestion that America--after years of xenophobia (the fear and hatred of strangers or foreigners or of anything that is strange or foreign, I won't lie, I had to look that word up)-- might possibly find a way to embrace diversity, pluralism and multiculturalism.
